One of the greatest things a chess academy can offer its students is the example of coaches who still compete at a high level. When a student sees their own teacher sitting across the board at a national event, it makes the goal of competing feel real and reachable.
Meet coaches who lead by example
When you meet Coach Kimuel, Coach John, and Coach Rose at Chess Learning Academy, you quickly see they do not just teach chess — they play it, at a level that takes years of dedication to reach. Qualifying for the semi-finals of the Philippine National Elimination is a serious achievement, and it shows our students exactly what discipline and hard work look like in action.
There is real power in that example. Children absorb far more from what they watch than from what they are told. When a coach studies, trains, and competes with the same enthusiasm they ask of their students, the lesson sticks without a single word being spoken.
A rising star among us
Competing alongside our coaches is Kassie Nuñez, a chess prodigy whose journey inspires students across the academy. Seeing a young player reach this stage is proof that the path from beginner to national competitor is real — and that it is walked one lesson, one game, and one tournament at a time through steady youth chess development at Chess Learning Academy.
The Philippine National Elimination is organised by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines and draws strong players from all over the country. Making it to the semi-finals there is no small feat. Our CLA family is proud of every one of them, and of what their example means for the students watching at home.
What this means for our students
Every time a member of the CLA family competes, the whole academy competes with them. Students see the opening they studied play out in a real game, hear about nerves managed under pressure, and learn that even strong players keep learning. This student spotlight on coaches and a rising prodigy tightens the bond between chess coach and student in a way that nothing else can.
